Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they'll find seven months after the invasion?
Meanwhile, Kady's cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza's ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha's past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.
With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.
Review:
Gah, my heart, guys. I can’t believe it’s over. This book (and series) has been a crazy nitty-gritty emotional roller-coaster of excitement!
I’ve have to say this was quite the space-saga survival story. Like the previous books, it’s packed full of catastrophic events, emotional moments and all around edge-of-your-seat adventures as we hurtle towards the final battle of good vs evil.
It’s hard to imagine, but even amid so much violence and chaos and loss, somehow the universe sometimes still manages to look beautiful.
I loved getting to see more of Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik and AIDEN! Seeing them deal with end-of-the-universe problems while still having to prove that they’re more than just teenage kids, just made me love them even more. Also, there’s still cuteness. Seriously, adored Kady and Erza so much, they’re so friggin’ adorable. And I liked that we got to see more of Hanna and Nik and how their relationship developed.
“I was thinking,” he murmurs. “There’a billion different versions of you out there, in a trillion different universes. And I still can’t get over how lucky I am that, out of all those versions, you’re the one that’s mine.”
We also meet to new two heroes, Asha and Rhys, who are Kerenza. I liked both of them but I definitely felt we didn’t really get a ton of time with them (what with all the action happening and getting to see a lot of the rest of the old crew). They did have a cute second chance at romance while saving the universe, too.
Overall this was a captivating and thrilling adventure that brings all the feelings. A great conclusion to a great series.
Live a life worth dying for.
